What's Your Approach?

Untitled, originally uploaded by MariQuilts.

Many years ago number one son was complaining to number two son about his school work......number two son said "Your problem is that you only learn the facts while I learn the concepts." You might recognize this as the same son who was appalled by paint by number at age four....needless to say, today he is a gifted teacher. Sorry us moms like to get a little brag in, now and then.

However, that thought has stayed with me. I watched it in action, on the boat last week. The course was charted, plans were made and we were on our way, but the exhilaration lay in the unknown .....the weather, the current, the wind.....it was all a catalyst for the challenge. I watched, the four sailors on board, draw from their understanding of those concepts, mixed with their experience , meet the challenge head on.......and loving every minute of it. Was it without anxiety or fear....of course not! But oh the wonder of it.....and that's how I love to quilt!

What's your approach?

Pondering Under the Palm Tree

Untitled, originally uploaded by MariQuilts.
Alright, now I'm getting downright ridiculous! To much sun perhaps??
Pondering under a palm tree....well, actually that is what I'm doing right now.....pondering the fact that I haven't seen a stitch of quilting since I left home.

Reflecting Under the Sail

Untitled, originally uploaded by MariQuilts.

After a week of sailing the caribbean I'm pretty sure I fall under the category a of QUILTER that sails occasionally rather than a SAILOR that quilts occasionally.......make that one hundred percent sure.

The Beauty of Nature

Untitled, originally uploaded by MariQuilts.

I love all the different textures and shapes in nature......it's enough to make a quilter's heart sing.

These Trips in the Dingy are Killing Me

Untitled, originally uploaded by MariQuilts.

Don't let these calm waters fool you. Getting in and out of the thing is only one of many hazards.

It's a Mystery

It's a mystery to me  how a girl, who can coordinate fifty quilting fabrics, in under an hour ....well almost....cannot coordinate a simple wardrobe, for a trip. Weeks of shopping result in lovely clothes, which of course, I can't even take one third of, with me. Why, you might ask, because I'm married to  Mr. I only need a carry on for a three week vacation.  Grumble grumble!

It's a mystery to me that I can make multiple artistic decisions about my quilts...at least I think they are artistic, but, I just can't decide what to bring and what to it leave behind...I inevitably make the wrong choices and then it's to late.  Mr. I'll just buy a t-shirt when I get there  just doesn't understand......

It's a mystery to me why the under wire always breaks, at the most inopportune moments... just as I'm packing, at the last hour,  of course.

Then it's really a mystery that I'm actually showing you pictures of my underwear.

So where am I going with all of this? This quilter is going sailing. I am starting out as sailing quilter but you never know, I might be converted to a quilting sailor. If technology allows I'll keep you posted.

When I get back the first thing I'll tackle is the tutorial for adding the QAYG Borders to this block.

And the very next thing is, I'll be getting  involved in Lynne's Quilt along

Lily's Quilts QAL

If you love to quilt and love to laugh..check it out.

Now back to that darn packing!!!

Hazards of Multiple Projects

I love the energy, that working on MULTIPLE PROJECTS brings. The ideas, churning in your head, as you bounce from one project to another, but there is a downside or hazardous side, if you will. After a few days or even weeks of this creative whirlwind, you suddenly open your eyes, and a tornado may just as well, have struck your studio.

Trust me when I say that bringing order to the disorder (that's putting it mildly), of a multiple, project, mess is no small task.

As you can see there are works in progress everywhere.

Things to finish up.

And stacks of fabrics for the next idea or should I say ideas.

Piles of strips to put a little order to.

But I did it......and the very act of order seems to create a breathing space, just to start the process all over again.

Why Does One Idea Always Lead to Another?

Why does one idea always seem lead to another? I'm minding my own business, still  stripping away like mad, but of course, I have to read the blogs. So I end up having a major attack of  Circle Envy. Seriously, this  quilt by Dan of Piece and Press  is a must see. But I'm in the middle of strip mode...and there you have it. Also one of the major reasons I have so many projects, on the go, at one time.

A little circle envy, a little stripping and some QAYG.

Who knows where this will take me but there are lots of ideas just percolating. It's wonderful to be inspired by one another.

All By Myself...and Still Stripping

I don't know what happens to me the minute my husband goes away on business. Yes, I have the house to myself and all order falls by the wayside. I like to blame other family members for these sorts of messes....but it's just me....ALL BY MYSELF. Besides hours on the computer, reading novels and eating whenever and to quote one of my kids from way back when "Why make a bed?".....I am still stripping...pity that, being by myself and all.

As you can see not everything has fallen by the wayside.....hmm, better go shower, my hair is still standing on end, from two or was it three days ago.
