Block Six Completed!!

Block six is done and the project is officially, on hold,
until the ColourBox arrives.....

Maybe I should sit on the front step and wait.

I probably have enough fabric to continue, but that ColourBox is going to give me a few many more choices.....my motto is, the more colours the better.

Block six under construction....many of these pictures are being taken at night, so the colours aren't as true as I would like.
Block Six completed.
Here are the six,completed blocks.

In the meantime, I'll start working on the Free Bee Block for March.

Adding The Unexpected.....

Adding an unexpected something is not without some risk. It can be the missing element that gives your work life, or the distinct......what was I thinking??  What causes us to throw something unexpected, into the middle of a perfectly good quilt, anyway ?

Sometimes something, as simple, as taking a walk can effect what I'm working on. After my walk I went straight to work and added the unexpected green to my quilt. I quickly took some shots and put them on the computer. I had completely forgotten about these pictures I had taken, while walking.

As I look at them, I can see the influencing effect my walk is having on me. I'm still trying to decide if this is a good thing or not. I still might wake up tomorrow and say "WHAT WAS I THINKING?".

Making Some Headway

I finally found some sewing machine needles and am making some headway.

Drumming up Enthusiasum for Works In Progress/Distractions

I sometimes usually have trouble getting excited about projects, that I started way back when.....and trust me, I have many of those gathering dust, in my studio.  For me, this is probably the downside of working on multiple projects. Getting my momentum back, for a particular project, can be difficult, especially if I started it over a year ago.

So I decided to give it a go......things didn't go all that well. I soon realized I needed to use a different size needle, in my machine, as the one I was using was shredding my thread. Of course I was out of that size, so off to the quilting shop....how distracting.

And of course, within ten minutes I managed to create havoc in my nice, tidy, dual purpose sewing room. So what else is new??

So four hours,  six meters of fabric and a nice dinner later I'm home again.....talk about distracted and they didn't have the needles I went for in the first place.

On the plus side....I did get my ten thousand steps in, walking to the fabric store.

The Beauty of Improvising....is Just That

There is a lot of freedom in improvisational type quilting, if you can get over the initial fear of "making a mistake".  Sometimes "mistakes" bring the most wonderful surprises.

I do a fair bit of improvising in my quilting, but this project is the first time, that I've just put an inspiration photo, in front of me and just started cutting and sewing. My goal is not to make an exact copy but a sort of "free form" copy if you will.

There's the photo.....from the Montreal Metro on my ipad

A little cutting and sewing......

and here we are.

The beauty of this method is there are no drawings to make,  free hand or otherwise, no paper piecing (to finicky for me), no templates, just cutting and sewing . It's sort of like jumping into the deep end, of the pool, if you don't drown you actually swim.

Since it's only fabric....just how dangerous can it be!!

Free Bee Block.....A Change of Plans

I've changed my mind on my Free Bee Block for February.  As much as I love my first choice, I feel it's to complex, for this particular project. I'll probably save it for a whole quilt, rather than just the block or two I'll be making, for the Free Bee.

The word simplify came up a few times in the discussion, amongst the FreeBees....and I am in complete agreement.

I have chosen two of my favorite photos, taken while visiting my daughter, in Montreal last year.

Here are some fabric choices I pulled out of the closet.

Enough Already

I must have a short attention span...I'm getting tired of posting pictures of this on going project and I mean on going. You are probably tired of it as well. Actually, I only started  last month...see what I mean about the short attention span

My eye is starting to wander again..... but with all my works in progress I would be crazy to start something new. So I made myself work on this, for a little while, this afternoon. Between a cold and some extra babysitting, I'm lucky I got anything done at all today.
